This collection contains the last of the early recordings made by the King Cole Trio for broadcast transcriptions, as well as the first sides made in 1942-3 for issue on a variety of small Los Angeles labels including Excelsior, Premier and Atlas. The first two of these 1942 sides were purchased by Capitol and issued during the AFM Recording Ban, when they had signed the Trio but could not record them. The remainder were made under poor conditions, and even mint first-generation pressings contain surface noise from the original lacquer discs. These transfers were made from the best available original 78s.
